Doctors mull revised pay offer IOL HEALTH The South African Medical Association (Sama) is expected to announce on Tuesday how many state doctors have accepted a wage offer by the government. "We will release a formal statement by Tuesday," Sama said in a statement. The government presented a revised pay offer for public sector doctors earlier this month in the hope of ending weeks of picketing and strikes which, at one stage, saw at least 200 doctors fired. Sama took the offer back to its members for a vote. The offer applies to doctors, dentists, pharmacists, pharmacist assistants and emergency medical staff, many of whom stayed away from work and held pickets over their delayed pay increases and poor working conditions. Medical workers were upset about a delay in the implementation of occupation specific dispensation (OSD) which is meant to address salary increases for public servants according to experience and expertise. - Sapa
